3 Arrested On Illegal Firearm Possession: Southbury Police
A loaded handgun and extra ammunition was discovered in a vehicle following a traffic stop, according to police.
SOUTHBURY, CT — Three men, who Southbury police said are convicted felons, were arrested on charges of illegal possession of a firearm after police found a loaded handgun and extra ammunition in a vehicle following a traffic stop Sunday night, according to authorities.
Southbury police were alerted to the vehicle by state police, after it was seen traveling erratically. Officers pulled it over westbound on Old Waterbury Road at Buck's Hill just after 9 p.m.
"After the operator of the vehicle was confrontational with police, multiple units from the Southbury Police Department and CSP Troop A converged in the area," Southbury police wrote on Facebook. "An investigation into the occupants of the vehicle found them all to be convicted felons. A brief investigation led to the discovery of a loaded Smith and Wesson Model 36 Revolver .38 special in the vehicle along with extra ammunition."

Arrested were Kevin Davis, 37, of Danbury; Joseph Caldwell, 42, of Bethel; and Vandrese Whitaker, 33, of Bethel, who was the driver.
All three were charged with criminal possession of a firearm, and Caldwell was additionally charged with weapons in a motor vehicle. Whitaker was additionally charged with interfering/resisting arrest; weapons in a motor vehicle; failure to comply with fingerprinting; and failure to drive right.

Both Davis and Caldwell were released after each posted a $5,000 cash bond, and they are scheduled to appear in court on 16. Whitaker was held in lieu of bail of $20,000, and was scheduled to arraigned in court on Monday.
