3 State Police Troopers Promoted To Sergeant In Southbury

Connecticut State Police announced the promotions Thursday.

SOUTHBURY, CT — Three veteran Connecticut State Police troopers were promoted to the rank of sergeant, and were assigned to Troop A in Southbury this week, authorities announced.

Sergeant John Acampora was promoted from Trooper First Class, where he most recently served as School Resource Officer at Henry Abbott Technical School in Danbury. During his more than seven-year career, Acampora has served as a New Fairfield Resident Trooper and as a Patrol Trooper at Troop A and Troop G in Bridgeport. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from Quinnipiac University.

Sergeant Robert Hazen was promoted from Trooper First Class, and served a decade as a Patrol Trooper at Troop B in North Canaan and as the New Hartford Resident Trooper. Additionally, he was a detective with the Western District Major Crime Squad. Hazen is a four-time recipient of the agency’s Commissioner’s 20 Marksmanship Award and has been recognized by MADD. He is studying for a bachelor’s degree, and was previously an officer with the Glastonbury Police Department.

Sergeant Dennis Picheco was promoted from Trooper First Class, and during his decade as a Trooper, he was a Patrol Trooper at Troop A and the Resident Trooper in Woodbury. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut.
