SOUTHBURY, CT — Crews quickly extinguished a chimney fire and prevented it from spreading to the roof of a home in Southbury over the weekend, according to fire officials. Firefighters from the Southbury Fire Department responded to the fire around 1:35 p.m. on Saturday.

The fire occurred at 592 Roxbury Rd. and the home had been evacuated by the time crews arrived at the scene, according to the NewsTimes.

“When fire personnel appeared on scene, there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the chimney as well as a smoke condition in the home,” officials wrote in a post on Facebook. “Luckily the fire was contained to the chimney and firefighters were able to put out the fire using a dry chem extinguisher. A quick response led to an excellent outcome.”
