CT State Trooper From Southbury Barracks Faces DUI Charge: Police

The Bethel Police charged the trooper with DUI, disobeying a signal from an officer​ and interfering with police.

BETHEL, CT — An off-duty Connecticut state trooper was charged with DUI after a Bethel police officer observed him "stumbling and apparently intoxicated."

The police officer found Andrew Murphy, assigned to Troop A in Southbury, in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven on Stony Hill Road at 2:10 Sunday morning, according to his report.

The police officer spoke with Murphy and instructed him not to drive his vehicle, which was parked.

"Murphy disregarded the officer, entered his vehicle and began driving. The Bethel Officer attempted to stop Murphy utilizing his police vehicle with lights and siren," according to a news release from the Bethel PD.

Murphy did not stop for the officer's signal, according to police, and instead continued driving until pulling into the driveway of his residence.

"Once stopped Murphy exited his vehicle and a DUI investigation began," according to police. Murphy attempted to get into his vehicle despite the police officer warning against it.

The Bethel Police charged Murphy with DUI, disobeying a signal from an officer and interfering with police. Murphy was released on bond and scheduled to appear before Danbury Superior Court on June 28.
