New Woodbury Salt Spa Now Open

Salt of the Earth Sanctuary, just over the Southbury town line, had a soft opening this week and is booking sessions.

Woodbury’s Salt of the Earth Sanctuary is officially open as of today — Wednesday, Jan. 7. The concept of the spa was born three years ago, when owner Sue Martovich and her husband were diagnosed with autoimmune disorders.

“Working in the high stress corporate environment, dealing with family tragedies and becoming financially challenged after a failed business partnership had taken its toll on our health, the first to feel the side effects of long term stress,” she wrote on the Salt of the Earth Sanctuary website.

The couple decided to change their diet, lifestyle and therapy.

“Within a year, we felt significant improvement in our energy levels, the stress was dramatically reduced and our health challenges became more manageable and in some cases, healed completely,” she said.

From this difficult time, Martovich’s knowledge of holistic care grew. She is looking forward to providing holistic alternatives to the community, starting with the sanctuary’s use of Himalayan salt.

“Himalayan salt is made up of 84 trace minerals essential to your body’s health,” according to the Salt of the Earth Sanctuary website. “Within our cells, blood and tissue, is a one percent salt water solution. This sole solution flows through miles of waterways and blood vessels throughout the body’s organism, regulates and balances the functions of the body. This is the same concentration as the salt of the ocean.”

Himalayan salt’s natural energy field resonates with the human body, the website stated.

“By providing a boost to the cells, salt therapy can enhance the consciousness level, and increase the body’s desire to regenerate to its healthy complete origin,” according to the Salt of the Earth Sanctuary website.

Offerings

Salt Family Room: Designed to allow children and supervising adults the experience and benefits of dry salt therapy. The Salt Family Room provides an environment where children can be themselves without the worry of disturbing other visitors, the website stated. The salt treatment rooms are carpeted with a thick layer of crystal salt and feature a state of the art halogenerator to simulate the environment of a salt mine, allowing for total immersion.

Salt Cave: “Our Salt Cave has been sculpted specifically for adult lungs and skin, allowing intense dry salt therapy in a controlled and serene environment,” Martovich said. “Our salt cave has been handmade by skilled craftsmen using Himalayan salt, wood and water. The floor is layered with white salt crystals, with a salt-tiled path leading to a water feature that enhances the ionization atmosphere within the cave. The walls are lined in Himalayan salt rock creating an oasis rich with negative ions, providing the ideal microclimate free from toxins and pollutants. Sit back in your zero gravity chair, pull up a blanket, close your eyes and breathe in the fine salt aerosol. Experience the healing powers of natural crystal salt.”

Salt Bed Chamber: Pexiglass enclosed dry salt therapy bed with a fully automatic and adjustable halogenerator for skin and lung therapy, emitting a higher concentration of salt in a shorter amount of time. This gives you the same effects of a full salt room session but in a more private setting.

Massage Therapy Rooms: SOTES offers two spaces for Energy Healing and Massage Therapy. Both rooms offer healing methods generated from Earth’s oldest natural crystals.

Amethyst Room: Available for services such as NAET, BioMat Therapy, Reiki, Energy and Spiritual healing, along with our list of massage therapies.

Crystal Room: A calm, stress free atmosphere
