Obit: Joseph Fitzgerald, 82, Of Southbury

SOUTHBURY - Joseph Fitzgerald, 82, departed this life on December 7, 2019 at Maplewood at Stony Hill in Bethel. He was the beloved husband of Judith Fitzgerald for 59 years.

Joseph was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 14, 1937 to the late Eugene and Miriam (Guzowski) Fitzgerald. He grew up on Governor's Island and later worked as an electrical contractor with Local 3 in NYC. He loved playing golf, tennis, softball, swimming and basketball. Joseph was on the national ski patrol and a volunteer for The Pleasantville Ambulance Corp. in Westchester County, where he resided for over 30 years. He retired to New Smyrna Beach, FL and to the lake house he built in East Otis, MA in the Berkshires.
Joseph is survived by: spouse Judith Fitzgerald; son Michael Fitzgerald and his wife Vilma Fitzgerald of Brooklyn, NY, daughter Jeanine Powers and her husband Bill Powers of Southbury, CT and daughter Theresa Shykind and her husband Dan Shykind of Frederick, MD. He cherished his six grandchildren: William Powers, Bridget Parent and Kelly Powers of Southbury, CT, Lauren and Sean Fitzgerald of Blauvelt, NY and Zoe Shykind of Frederick, MD.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM on Friday, December 13, 2019, at the Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main St. South in Southbury.
