Obituary: Georgette Marguerite Giroux, 89

Georgette Marguerite Giroux, 89, formerly of Watertown, passed away peacefully at the Lutheran Home in Southbury.

SOUTHBURY - Georgette Marguerite Giroux, 89, formerly of Watertown, passed away peacefully at the Lutheran Home in Southbury, Sunday, November 17, 2019.


Georgette was born in Watertown, January 24, 1930, daughter of the late Ernest J. and Marguerite (Desruisseaux) Giroux. A lifelong resident of Watertown, she was a graduate of Baldwin School and Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury. She earned her Associate's Degree in horticulture from the University of Connecticut, her B.A. from Goddard College in Vermont, and her Master's in pastoral counseling from St. Joseph's University in Hartford. After a number of years in the lab at the Princeton Knitting Mills, she worked as a vocational counselor at Easter Seals in Watertown and LARC in Torrington. She also did career counseling at Post University.

Georgette is survived by two brothers, Marcel Giroux of Columbus, Nebraska, and Donald Giroux of Woodbury; her sister, Sylvia Brockman of Woodbury; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.


In addition to her parents, Georgette was predeceased by her brothers, Andre Giroux and Robert "Wis" Giroux.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury. Burial will follow in Mount St. James Cemetery, Porter Street, Watertown. Calling hours Sunday 6-9 p.m., in the daily chapel of Sacred Heart Church. The Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main Street, Watertown, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
