Opening Day Looms for Pomperaug High School Teams

SOUTHBURY, CT — High school sports practices have been ongoing for nearly two weeks and many preseason scrimmages have been played, but the real deal begins Thursday - opening day of the regular season for many varsity teams.

Here are the scheduled opening contests for varsity teams at Pomperaug High School. For a complete season schedule of Panther varsity, JV and freshman teams, visit the CIAC web site.

• boys soccer - Thursday, 9/6, vs. Weston, 7 p.m.
• girls soccer - Thursday, 9/6, at Weston, 7 p.m.
• girls swimming - Friday, 9/7, at Weston, 4 p.m.
• girls volleyball - Friday, 9/7, at Ridgefield, 5:30 p.m.
• field hockey - Friday, 9/7, vs. Stamford, 6:30 p.m.
• football - Friday, 9/7, at Bethel, 7 p.m.
• cross country - Tuesday, 9/11, vs. Masuk and Stratford, 4 p.m.
