Pomperaug Cracks Top 5 of Initial High School Field Hockey Poll

SOUTHBURY, CT — Two-time defending Class L state champion Staples High School is off to a flying start, outscoring opponents 26-2 en route to four straight victories to open the season and securing the top spot in the initial poll of high school field hockey coaches.

Staples received first-place nods from six of the eight voters. Cheshire and Wilton also received top votes.

Pomperaug, which has outscored opponents by a 15-1 margin in opening the season with four straight victories, placed fifth in the balloting.

Here are the top 10, plus all other schools receiving votes.
