Pomperaug Runners Win State Cross Country Championships
The Panther girls won a state title for the third straight year in the Class MM meet at Wickham Park in Manchester.

MANCHESTER, CT — For the third straight October, the Pomperaug High School girls cross country team won a state title at the CIAC championships at Wickham Park. This one was different, however, occurring in Class MM.
The Panthers compiled 39 points to easily outdistance runner-up Tolland, which had 70. Sophomore Kate Wiser turned in the fastest girls time of the day, running all by herself in 18:32 to dust runner-up Juliet Russell of Brookfield by a minute and nine seconds.
Madison Villa (4), Nina Koobatian (7), Amanda Kugler (13), Kathleen Schenk (14) and Ivy Walker (22) also had top 25 results for the Panthers.

The Pomperaug boys placed fourth in Class L, led by Trey Generali (20) and Eric Rosenhein (24).
The top two teams and 12 individuals from each class advance to the State Open, scheduled for Nov. 2, also at Wickham Park.
