Sacred Heart Church Celebrates Sacraments
Sacred Heart's Faith Formation program, G.I.F.T., is accepting enrollment! G.I.F.T. is open to all ages!!

Southbury, Connecticut – The beginning of May welcomed the celebration of two Sacraments at Sacred Heart Church. This year a total of 57 students celebrated First Holy Communion and 72 students celebrated Confirmation.
During the celebration of the First Holy Communion, Father Joe explained, "In my work as a Pastor, I am more and more suspicious that people think they have to be perfect in order to make God love them. That they have to earn God's love.... That is not what Jesus taught.... God has the heart of a father and mother, and a father and a mother never give up on their children." The emphasis of God’s unconditional love was discussed during each celebration of the First Holy Communion.
High School Confirmation students completed a two year preparation program that offered them an experience of what it is like to be a full member of the Sacred Heart Catholic community. Ami Conlan, Pastoral Associate stated, “Outreach through service programs at River Glen, Southbury Training School, St. Vincent de Paul Shelter, the Southbury Food Bank and a Mission Trip to Erie, PA were among the opportunities that each member participated in offering them the ability to put faith in action. Basically loving God and loving people are the central messages in this process. Belonging to a faith community and experiencing this sacred moment helps this become a reality. ”

Sacred Heart Church is now accepting new individuals and households for their G.I.F.T. (Growing in Faith Together) program. The Sacred Heart G.I.F.T. program is not limited to students celebrating the sacraments, but is open to anyone looking to explore and learn more about faith in an engaging environment. The 2018-2019 G.I.F.T. year will focus on “Jesus Calling”. This year’s program theme invites each of us to recognize and respond to the unique way God calls us in our lives. Through learning in the context of the liturgical year and through the stories, feasts and seasons, we will follow Jesus’ journey and discover meaning and purpose in our own.
