All dogs in Southbury six months or older must be licensed each year in the month of June. The fee for the license is $8 if the dog is neutered or spayed and $19 if it is not.
A current rabies certificate is required for all dogs; and a neutered/spayed certificate is required for dogs that will be licensed for the first time or if recently neutered or spayed.
“It is very important that you bring in the required certificates since this office will not call the veterinarian,” said the Town Clerk’s Office.
Dog licenses may be obtained in person or by mail from the Town Clerk’s Office, 501 Main Street South, Southbury from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning June 3. Licenses will also be sold on Sunday, June 2 from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Town Garage on Peter Road.
If a license is obtained by mail, residents must include a check for the proper fee made payable to the Town of Southbury, all required certificates (rabies, neutered/spayed) and a self-addressed stamped envelope and mail to: Town Clerk, Town of Southbury, 501 Main Street South, Southbury, CT 06488. All certificates will be returned with the license and tag.
Dogs that are not licensed in the month of June will pay a penalty for each month thereafter. Also any unlicensed dog will be subject to a $75 infraction from the Dog Warden. Any dog or cat over the age of three months must have a rabies vaccination by Connecticut law or be fined $136.
If residents have questions they are encouraged to contact the Southbury Town Clerk’s Office at (203) 262-0657.
