Southbury to Honor its Volunteers
The town is looking for people to serve on a new committee to plan and coordinate an annual volunteer appreciation award and event.

At their September 4th meeting, the Southbury Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to establish a standing committee to plan and coordinate an annual volunteer appreciation award and event, according to a press release from First Selectman Edward Edelson’s office.
The Annual Volunteer Appreciation Event is the Holiday party – now held in January. All members of Boards and Commissions as well as groups affiliated with the Town are invited. This is the perfect opportunity to recognize an outstanding volunteer and show the Town’s appreciation for all of their contributions to enhance the quality of life in Southbury.
The Volunteer Appreciation Committee will consist of six Southbury residents, two Democrats, two Republicans and two unaffiliated voters and several staff members who will help with the coordination of the actual Holiday party, as they currently do. The Committee will be responsible for outlining the criteria that will be used for selecting a Volunteer of the Year, formulating the actual selection process, deciding on the manner of recognition and other details relating to the event.
