Southbury Vaccination Site Was Shutdown By State: Report

A mobile coronavirus vaccine site at Heritage Village in Southbury reportedly was shutdown temporarily by state officials earlier this year.

SOUTHBURY, CT — A mobile coronavirus vaccination site at Heritage Village in Southbury was shutdown temporarily earlier this year after state health officials learned that an untrained state representative was handling vaccines, reported the Connecticut Mirror.

The vaccination site was being operated by the Kent-based rehabilitation facility High Watch Recovery Center, which was also temporarily suspended by the state Department of Public Health because of the incident.

State Rep. Jason Perillo, a Republican from Shelton who was an emergency medical technician at one time, was found to be handling vaccines, though his EMT license had expired years earlier. He reportedly was not administering the vaccine to patients.

Perillo said he received training on handling the vaccines from a physician with High Watch, but the state Department of Public Health requires training with one of its staff.
