The group's goal is to promote "acceptance and understanding of all citizens and work to improve relations within the community."

SOUTHBURY, CT — Southbury's newly formed Community Relations Task Force is seeking a member of the community to join the group, town officials announced this week.

The task force's mission is to promote "acceptance and understanding of all citizens and work to improve relations within the community." It consists of a Southbury high school student, a member of the local clergy, a community representative, a senior resident and one Board of Selectman member from each political party. Additionally, an advisor from the Region 15 School District will be a non-voting member.

"The Community Relations Task Force promotes acceptance of all members of the Southbury community and focuses on advancing understanding of the diverse and multicultural makeup of its citizens," officials wrote in the mission statement on Facebook. "The Task Force collaborates with existing organizations such as the Region 15 School District and local religious institutions to advise the Board of Selectmen on ways to improve equity, equality and inclusion in all sectors of the community."
