State PD Sergeant Appears In Court On DUI Charge

Sgt. John McDonald was arrested last month and charged with DUI and assault with a vehicle after a crash.

SOUTHBURY, CT —State police Sgt. John John McDonald briefly appeared in court Monday after he was charged with driving under the influence while in his police-issued cruiser.

The case was continued to Jan. 6 and McDonald made no comment after court, according to Fox 61.

McDonald was arrested in November in relation to the Sept. 25 crash that injured a mother and daughter. He is charged with second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, reckless driving and failure to obey a stop sign.

McDonald was at the Black Hog Brewing Company in Oxford for a retirement party prior to driving. Surveillance video shows him drinking what appeared to be eight beers in less than three hours, according to an arrest warrant.

The crash injured Lisa Conroy and her daughter Madison Conroy. The two are suing McDonald, the state and Black Hog Brewing Company's owners.
