State PD Sergeant Involved In Southbury Crash Suspended

The suspension comes months after the crash that left a mother and daughter injured.

SOUTHBURY, CT — State police have suspended a sergeant who crashed his cruiser into another car during September in Southbury. The crash injured a mother and daughter.

Sgt. John McDonald was suspended with pay until internal and criminal investigations are completed, according to the Hartford Courant.

Police are looking into whether McDonald consumed alcohol at a retirement party at Black Hog Brewing Co. in Oxford before driving his state-issued vehicle. There is a zero-tolerance alcohol policy for anyone operating a state vehicle.

The crash left Lisa and Madison Conroy injured. The two have since sued the state, McDonald and Black Hog Brewing Co.'s owners. McDonald failed to stop at a stop sign.

State Police previously said that McDonald wasn't given a field sobriety test because he was taken away from the crash scene via ambulance. He declined further treatment after arriving at a hospital, according to the Republican-American.
