A UPS truck crashed into two transformers Thursday afternoon knocking out power to much of Main Street in Southbury.
The truck took down wires and nearly missed hitting the Main Street Deli, at the corner of Garage Road and Main Street South.
Town buildings are running on generators, but many Main Street businesses are without power. CL&P is in route to the accident as of 12:45 p.m. but no timetable has been given for restoration, according to Southbury Resident Trooper Sgt. Mike O'Donnell.
Stoplights on Main Street are out and have been replaced by stop signs, causing delays in both directions.
Some business owners fear the outage could last a significant amount of time.
"What a nightmare," said Koco Pela, owner of Main Street Deli. "This is going to be a big job and take a very long time, hopefully it happens at some point today."
