'Walk For Wade' Event Honors Pomperaug Sports Star
The local sports legend committed suicide last month and friends and family are uniting Sunday to raise awareness for suicide prevention.

SOUTHBURY, CT — The Southbury community and beyond will unite this weekend to raise awareness for suicide prevention. The town is still mourning the death of Wade Michael Prajer, 22, who committed suicide last month.
The Walk for Wade event will be held Sunday at Pomperaug High School Track and Field, the Republican-American reports. If you plan to attend please arrive at 2:30 p.m. as the event begins at 3:32 p.m.
According to a GoFundMe, which has raised $14,859 as of Friday afternoon, "Our loving teammate, son, brother, nephew, grandson, and friend, Wade Prajer passed away earlier this year. To honor his memory and the impact he made on our community, we are planning to walk the Pomperaug High School Track and Field on Sunday, July 8th."

"Participation in the 2018 Walk for Wade will include a t-shirt and bracelet. In addition, there will be items, donated by members of our community who knew and loved Wade, that will be raffled off. Along with the walk and raffle, vendors will be present to purchase food, and various individuals will speak about the life of Wade Prajer and how you can get involved in the cause.
"We ask that you put forth any amount that you can. We are partnered with the Alex Archie Foundation in an attempt to raise awareness for suicide prevention in our community," the GoFundMe concludes.

Prajer was a football and lacrosse star for Pomperaug High School, the Rep-Am reports. He was attending college at the time of his death and wanted to join the U.S. Marine Corp., the Rep-Am adds.
