Winter Team State Championship History: Pomperaug High School
Panther teams have won 23 state championships in winters past.
SOUTHBURY, CT — As practices for Connecticut high school winter sports officially get underway Monday (girls basketball, ice hockey and wrestling) and Thursday (boys basketball, indoor track, boys swimming and girls gymnastics), hopes run high for all teams to achieve the ultimate goal: winning a league championship, and possibly a state title.
To help squads get into the championship mentality, here is a listing of all 23 winter team titles won by Pomperaug High School in past years (* - indicates a co-op team).
- boys swimming (18) - Class M: 2016, 2007, 2000, 1999, 1996, 1995; Class L: 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008; State Open: 2010, 2008; Class S: 1994, 1991
- girls gymnastics (3) - Class M: 2008, 2004, 2002
- boys ice hockey (1) - Div. III: 2011*
- boys basketball (1) - Class M: 1980
