Bail Doubled For Defendant In Southington Sexual Assault Case

A Hartford man is in custody in a Southington sexual assault case, records show.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A judge more than doubled the bail amount for a defendant in a Southington sexual assault case, judicial records show.

Anthony Williams, 28, of Hartford, was charged with:

  • First-degree sexual assault
  • Second-degree strangulation
  • Second-degree breach of peace
  • Interfering with an officer

The case began at 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 19, when Southington officers went to a Berlin Avenue home for a complaint about a drunken "problem guest" who assaulted a resident, according to a police report.

When police arrived, Williams was "struggling to maintain his balance," but he is accused of sexually assaulting and getting the "victim" in a choke hold, according to a police report.

The victim did say Williams was invited into the home, according to a police report.

While being transported to the Southington Police Department for processing, Williams became "increasingly uncooperative" with police, a report indicates. One officer was injured n the scuffle, according to a police report.

Police said there case is still being investigated.

Williams' initial bond was $100,000, but but a judge upped the ante to $250,000 during a Feb. 20 arraignment, judicial system records show. Williams remained in custody Tuesday and is due back in court on March 1, judicial system records show.
