Driver Charged After Car Hits Building In Southington

A Cheshire man is facing charges in Southington after his car hit a building, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Cheshire man is facing charges after a car hit a building in Southington, police said.

At 12:40 a.m. on Saturday, Southington Police responded to the Hop Haus at 28 West Main St. after a vehicle struck the building.

The driver left the scene and police located a vehicle matching the description of the one involved a short distance away, according to a report.

According to a report, police determined that Kevin Mitchell, 25, of Cheshire, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Cruz in a southwesterly direction on Main Street. When Mitchell reached the intersection of Main St., South Main St. and West Main St., the Chevy exited the road, crossed the sidewalk, struck some decorative planters that were located in the vacant lot on the southwest corner of the intersection and then struck the Hop Haus building, according to a report.

The vehicle then fled the area in a westerly direction on West Main Street, only to be stopped by
police a short distance away.

Mitchell was was intoxicated, according to a report. He was charged with driving under the influence, evading responsibility and failure to maintain the proper lane.
