Fairy Tales: Exhibit Bringing the Magic of Fairy Dust to the Barnes Museum
For the second year in a row, the Barnes Museum will celebrate the Apple Harvest Festival with a special showing of their own with the "Barnes Museum Fairy House Festival."
The Barnes Museum will host their Second Annual Fairy House Festival in conjunction with the Southington Apple Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on the museum grounds.
Sponsored by the Southington Orchard Valley Garden Club, the majorities of the Wee Houses have been designed by their members and constructed by using all natural materials.
Approximately 30 of them will be on display the entire week of the Apple Festival for visitors of all ages to roam the museum grounds to enjoy and be amazed at these magnificently created little dwellings.
The museum gazebo will be transformed into a Wee Fairy House Village that will include a library, post office, church, curiosity shop, and even a B & B to name just a few. As an added feature this year Garden Club members have also created many Fairy Rock Garden Dish displays that will be on exhibit as well.
Children participating in the event on Saturday will be given Fairy Bracelets upon entering the grounds to warn the Fairies that they are entering the village.
Activities will include making Fairy Wands and Wizard Hats with a Fairy House Construction Workshop in the old barn if they want to try their skills at designing a Fairy House.
FiFi & Mr. Joe of “Puttin’ on the Ritz” will be there making balloon animals and painting Fairy faces. This event is free and open to the public. The museum will be open to the public for tours from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
For information, call the museum at (860) 628-5426.
