SOUTHINGTON, CT — Connecticut is among the top states for vaccinating its population against the coronavirus, but there is still wide variability in vaccination rates between towns.

Around 42 percent of Connecticut’s total population is fully vaccinated; 57 percent have received at least one dose, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

In Southington, 20,247 residents have been fully vaccinated as of May 5, which is about 46 percent of the total population — in total 58 percent of the town population has received at least one dose, according to DPH.

Cases

Connecticut’s infection rate continues to drop, and fewer towns are in the red zone warning level for coronavirus infections. There were 17.2 average daily cases per 100,000 residents between April 18 and May 1, according to the state Department of Public Health. The previous rate was 22.1 and the rate was over 30 a month ago.

Southington recorded 30 new coronavirus cases between April 28 and May 5, according to DPH’s preliminary data. There have been 3649 cases recorded since the pandemic began and 94 coronavirus deaths.

Southington had 15.8 average daily cases per 100,000 residents between April 18 and May 1 and a positive test rate of 3.20 percent. There were 22 average daily cases per 100,000 residents in the previous two-week reporting period. It’s important to note that a relatively small number of cases can have a big effect on the case rate, especially in smaller towns.
