Bills dealing in real estate and property tax over $100 may be payable in two installments with the first due on July 1. If made before August 2, it will have no interest. Second payments have a deadline of Jan. 1, 2022, and can be paid before Feb. 1, 2022, with no interest. Motor vehicle bills are due July 1, 2021, in one installment, or before Aug. 2, 2021, without interest.

Payments can be mailed to the collector’s office at P.O. Box 1040, CT 06011. The release said the entire three-part bill with a self-addressed stamped envelope needs to be with the payment if one desires a receipt mailed back. Payment can also be made on the city’s website as well.

The release said that from July 1 through August 2, all bills with no back tax message can be paid at People’s United Bank and the branch does not have to be in Bristol. Citizens are encouraged to provide their most recent tax coupon along with the payment made in cash or check. City officials make note that a failure to receive a bill doesn’t “invalidate the tax and/or interest penalty” in regards to state statute Sec. 12-130.

Motor vehicle bills left unpaid after August 2 are subject to being reported to the state department of motor vehicles and forwarded to a collection agency with additional fees being applied.

Those with questions are encouraged to contact the assessor’s office at 860-584-6240 if a bill is received for a vehicle no longer owned or with questions about exemptions and assessments.

The Bristol Tax Office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Fridays.

The current mill rate is 38.35 per $1,000 of assessment.
