Police Seeking Help in Finding Suspect After Purse Snatching

Officers said a "black male" approached a 63-year-old woman at the Cumberland Farms on Queen Street and fought with her before taking her purse and fleeing on foot.

Southington police are seeking help in locating a man they said robbed a 63-year-old woman of her purse before fleeing down Queen Street earlier this week.

Officers responded to the Cumberland Farms convenience store Wednesday evening around 9 p.m. to reports of a robbery. Upon arriving, the victim told officers that a “black man” had just taken her purse and fled on foot.

Police said the woman had just left the store when she was approached by a man, standing about six feet tall, slender and wearing all black clothing and a ski mask.

The man proceeded to engage the victim, wrestling the pocketbook from her before fleeing on foot towards Ruby Tuesday’s and T.J. Maxx. A police K-9 track followed the suspect to the Rethal Street area before losing the scent.

“It is believed the black male suspect may live and/or frequent the northeastern section of Southington because he appeared to have knowledge of the area when he fled the scene,” Sg.t Jeffrey Dobratz said.

The female victim sustained a dislocated left shoulder and a fractured left arm among other injuries as a result of this incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Kyle Dobratz at (860) 378-1654.
