Sawing a School Principal, Decorated Officers and Rachel's Challenge

Five things to help you plan your day on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013.

Good morning from Southington Patch! Today is Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013.

1. How much do Southington school staff care about their students? Enough to be cut in half! (We aren't kidding.) Head to the Plantsville School Thursday evening for a special show including a magic trick involving Principal Pat Corvello.

2. Southington officers are willing to put their lives on the line for the public - and the town is showing it does not go unnoticed. The town's decorated officers will be honored during a special ceremony Thursday, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Southington High School.

3. In honor of one of the victim's of the Newtown school shooting, the students and staff are taking part in Rachel's Challenge. The event will be part of a daylong effort to promote strong leadership and friendship. The effort will culminate in a community event at 7 p.m.

4. The Board of Education will meet tonight at the Southington Municipal Center. The meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
