Southington Obituary: Andrew Dignazio, 76

Andrew P. Dignazio, 76, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the Summit at Plantsville. He had been the loving husband of Jean (Pollender) Dignazio for nearly 50 years.

Born in New Britain on November 3, 1942 to the late Adam and Ann (Surowiecki) Dignazio, he had been a Southington resident since 1969. Andrew worked for the State of CT at the DOT as an Engineer Draftsman, retiring after 30 years of service. He served as Union President and Vice-President for 22 years.

After his retirement, he worked as a consultant at AI Engineers, Inc. for 10 years. Alongside his wife Jean, he was the co-chairman of the Southington Arts and Crafts Association at the Apple Harvest Festival for almost 30 years.

Andy liked to sail model sailboats and he loved the NY Yankees. Most of all, he loved his family and especially his grandchildren. He looked forward to spending a week every summer at Lake George with them on their annual family vacation.

In addition to his wife Jean, Andy is survived by his daughter, Amy Townsend and her husband Danny of Plantsville and his son Matt Dignazio and his wife Julie of Waterford and three grandchildren, Jimmy Townsend and Tommy and Marina Dignazio.

Andy’s family would like to thank the staff at the Fresenius Dialysis Center in Plantsville for their attention and the excellent care they provided for him over the last seven years.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. from the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville with a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. Dominic, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 175 South End Rd., Southington. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home.
