The Hartford Marathon Foundation (HMF) has announced the final selections of the Eversource Hartford Marathon and Half Marathon 2020 Inspiration Team, presented by Bank of America. This year’s team highlights inspiring individuals who have made a positive difference to support local charity, advance social justice efforts or serve their community during these difficult times as a first responder, military or healthcare professional. The eight members of the team are participating in virtual race events October 8-10, a community wide movement with purpose providing 100% of registration fees to benefit local charities.

Michelle Osuch, of Southington, will run the half marathon this year. As a CT Scan Tech at Waterbury Hospital working with COVID-19 patients, Osuch handled unprecedented situations while feeling personal loss of income when her second job at a salon came to a halt. The pandemic forced her to postpone her wedding but she maintained a positive attitude, rolling up her sleeves to get the salon re-opened. She volunteers her talents to provide makeovers for breast cancer survivors and her time at a local animal rescue, often raising funds while getting her miles in.

“This year I am running the Driven with Purpose challenge and I am really excited to put myself to the test,” said Osuch. “Every year I strive to complete a sub 2-hour half marathon and it’s happened once at Hartford - so I’m hoping this year I can do it again! This race weekend is one that my friends and I have done every year, it’s our time to step away from the world and just run. We each run our own race, but as we cross that line we know we’ll hear each other cheering, holding out water, proud of each other’s accomplishments. It’s something I look forward to every time.”

Having these races to look forward to, she said, helps keep her motivated to run year-round.

“This year, more than ever, we need to share inspiring stories from our community and work hard to stay connected to the purpose of this beloved local tradition,” said Beth Shluger, CEO of the Hartford Marathon Foundation and Race Director of the Eversource Hartford Marathon and Half Marathon. “The pandemic may have changed our physical presence in downtown Hartford, but we hope that the passion and dedication represented by our Inspiration Team will inspire more in the community to move with purpose, whether they run, walk or just want to get involved in something positive.”
