Tree Falls On Section Of Highway In Southington

A tree fell on a portion of Interstate-84 in Southington Tuesday afternoon.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A tree fell on a section of Interstate-84 during the early part of Tuesday's high winds and it prompted part of the eastbound section of the highway to be closed, state Department of Transportation and Southington Fire Department officials said. A separate crash closed the entire westbound side nearby, officials said.

The incidents were reported just after 2 p.m.

The tree fell on I-84 West between exits 31 and 32. Fire officials said it was across the right and center lanes of the highway.

Vehicles were also involved, fire officials said.

The crash closed a section of the highway between exits 30 and 31. The highway was re-oped at about 3:15.
