SOUTHINGTON, CT — A wayward bear was captured in a busy section of Southington Wednesday afternoon.

Connecticut State Environmental Conservation Police responded to Queen Street in Southington near the Home Depot after receiving reports about a black bear running in and out of traffic.

ECON and Southington authorities were able to coax the bear up a tree and away from motorists, according to a report.

A member of the ENCON "chemical immobilization team" was able to safety tranquilize the bear, a report indicates.

Data was obtained by the DEEP wildlife division and the bear was given two ear tags and safely moved to a wooded area without injury, ENCON police said.
