A Crowning Achievement for Fred Astaire South Windsor & Southbury
as They Sweep The 53rd Annual Colonial Dancesport Championships
All eyes were on Fred Astaire South Windsor and Southbury as they walked away with all of the most prestigious prizes at the The 53rd Annual Colonial Dancesport Championships held August 9th throughAugust 11th at the AAA Four Diamond Hyatt Regency in Greenwich, CT.
The studios garnered the competition’s most highly coveted awards including Top Competition Studio for winning the overall score of student dances and Regional Super School based on participation, organization and team spirit.
Fred Astaire Southbury and South Windsor students displayed their brilliance on the dance floor sweeping the competition with outstanding placements in every category.

1st Place Awards: Elaine AbouAkar & Christian Lange (Social Bronze Closed Smooth); Shirley Jakobowski & Christian Lange (Silver Closed Rhythm; Silver Closed Smooth);
3rd Place Awards: Shirley Jakobowski & Christian Lange (Open Smooth Championship).
Southbury and South Windsor students, teachers and studio owners joined in celebrating their superb achievements at Saturday’s Gala Night/Banquet featuring show dances and formation as well as the highly anticipated Studio Awards. Mark Gagnon & Amada Meador brought both intrigue and glamour to their James Bond performance, while Elaine AbouAkar, Christian Lange and Julia Mincheva presented a highly entertaining Austin Powers show dance

A spectacular performance by Christian Lange & Anastasia Barhatova (Hamdem Studio) was one of the highlights of the evening, as they dazzled the audience with their exquisitely elegant dance style.
Top Teacher Awards:
Fred Astaire Southbury co-owner Christian Lange (American Smooth), instructor Vladimir Serbulenco (Rhythm and Overall Top Teacher); Instructor Amanda Meador (Overall Top teacher) were all recognized among the top New England male and female instructors of the event.

The Colonial Dancesport Championships has been an exceptionally rewarding experience for South Windsor,” said studio co-owner Christian Lange. “We are so very proud of all of our students who really stepped up and brought their A game to this competition. Out of the twenty-four Fred Astaire Studios in New England, our students set a shining example of what can be achieved with hard work and and a determination to excel beyond their wildest dreams.
