A Fish Story, South Windsor Fishing Derby, Concerts and Reading
There is lots going on this weekend in South Windsor. Here's a look at just five of them.

Last week, my 5-year-old son went on his first Opening Day fishing trip with my father-in-law.
To say that he loved it would be an understatement. He caught trout after trout, sending most of them back to the pond where he hooked them, but had to bring one home.
While I was thrilled to see pictures of his smiling face, hear about the fishing stories he told with his Pop Pop and cousins, laughed when he described how it felt to try to hold the fish correctly ("Through his mouth, mommy, but watch out for his teeth!"), I was not as psyched about the headless fish wrapped in a Zip Lock bag that was stored on my refrigerator shelf for a day.
(Disclaimer: I'm not a cook. My husband is great with preparing meal after meal, while I tend to stick to the basics of breakfast; pancakes, waffles, eggs. To make up for my lack of culinary know-how I take care of the cleaning.)
My father-in-law, thankfully, took care of the dirty work so that the trout was ready for frying when my son got home. My husband cooked it up that night and we had small bites of trout mixed in with the salmon he'd prepared for dinner on the grill.
It was the perfect end to a day of fishing.
