Against a backdrop of bulldozers and a pair of completed towers, local officials and company representatives broke ground on The Residence at South Windsor Farms Tuesday morning.
Work on the senior living facility began weeks ago under contractor Congress Building Corp., but the ceremony was delayed.
The facility, expected to be completed and open in less than a year, will include 80 apartments and a memory care/Alzheimer’s wing. Michael Stoller, CEO of developer LCB Senior Living, said that the facility would offer myriad services to its residents and that its mission is personal.

“[Assisted living and memory care] involves making a home for our loved ones, an opportunity for people to be socialized, to get three meals a day and have access to activities. It puts things back into their life that people may be missing,” Stoller said.
The location, near the site of a former potato farm and on land purchased from the Calvary Church, is the ideal site to do so, he said.

“We’re very thrilled to be in this town,” Stoller said. “It’s welcomed us with open arms and it’s a great place to be.”
Sen. Gary LeBeau acknowledged that the average age in South Windsor was surprisingly high and that the area is getting older. The Residence at South Windsor Farms, the third assisted living facility in town, will fill a need, he said.
Rep. Bill Amann said that the facility fills a need for South Windsor, too.
“One of our concerns has always been this area of Buckland Road and what would be built here,” Amann said. “We are extremely glad to welcome you.”
With Farmington Bank and The Residence, Amann said the town had gained two attractive businesses that would hold a vested interest in improving the area.
Mayor Tom Delnicki, who was joined by councilors Gary Bazzano and Cindy Beaulieu, agreed the facility is a good fit for the area.
“We spent so much time with Planning and Zoning coming up with the corridor, showcasing Evergreen Walk and the medical center… this is something that is going to speak volumes when you start going up Buckland Road.
LCB Senior Living has four open facilities, four under construction and another is scheduled to be built in Avon, beginning soon.
