SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Heritage Day, an annual family-oriented celebration in early fall honoring the history of South Windsor, has been canceled for 2020 by the South Windsor Historical Society.
The event had been slated for Oct. 3 on Main Street in the area adjacent to the historic East Windsor Hill Post Office, at the west end of Sullivan Ave.. Each year, vendors display arts and crafts of Colonial days, and numerous activities include children’s games and crafts, storytellers, musical groups, wood turning, wood carving, blacksmith demonstration, spinners, potters, candle makers, special displays, pony rides and food.
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic, coupled with the recent passing of Historical Society president Brian Rivard, were cited as resons for the cancellation.

A statement on the Historical Society's website reads:
Since the passing of our beloved President, Brian Rivard and the need for safety of the community, Heritage Day will be cancelled this year. This event has always been the highlight of the year for the Historical Society and right now it would not be the same without Brian. We look forward to bringing this event back in the future and giving it the same dedication and passion that Brian would’ve been proud of.
