Hidden Gems Of Hartford And Tolland Counties

The latest Hidden Gem is in an otherwise residential neighborhood, not exactly where you'd expect to find a thriving business - but it is.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Finding Topstone Golf Course is not the easiest thing to do without a GPS. It is smack dab in the middle of a residential area of South Windsor - in fact, part of the course actually sits in East Windsor. Once you do find it, however, you will return again and again to one of the finest tracks in Connecticut.

Opened in 1997, Topstone is a course of moderate length, playing 6,546 yards from the back tees, but it is no by means easy. Short par-4s like No. 3 and No. 9 are offset by the danger of railroad tracks and large bunkers, respectively, while lengthier uphill par-4s such as Nos. 7, 11 and 14 can make it fairly easy to wind up with a 6 on your scorecard.

One thing cannot be denied: Topstone provides some of the finest playing conditions around, with lush fairways and manicured greens. The pro shop is fully stocked by PGA professional Jeff Beyer, and numerous organizations utilize the club annually for outings and events. There is also a dining room and banquet facility on the premises.
