Medication Take Back is Saturday in South Windsor
Residents simply drive up to get rid of unwanted medications.

The South Windsor Police Department is hosting a drug disposal day Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at police headquarters. The event allows residents to safely dispose of unwanted medications without endangering others or the environment.
It's easy and often popular, according to South Windsor Police Lt. Scott Custer.
"We have historically received over 400 pounds of unwanted medication at these events," Custer said. "Citizens simply drive up, are greeted by a volunteer who takes their unwanted meds, and they drive off - there is no charge for this service."
The event is part of a nationally coordinated Drug Enforcement Administration event to allow citizens to safely dispose of unwanted medications. All medications will be accepted: prescription, non-prescription and over the counter. No needles will be accepted.Â
Volunteers from the South Windsor Triad (Police, Human Services & Senior Services) will be on hand to receive the unwanted medications from citizens.Â
These events are held to reduce the risk of prescription drug diversion and abuse, and accidental ingestion. Additionally, the proper disposal of unwanted and outdated medication lessens the chance of negative environmental impact such as groundwater contamination and watercourse pollution.Â
