SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Our stroll down Memory Lane today brings us back to a wonderful picture book called Images of America: South Windsor, compiled in 2017 by Claire Lobdell for the Wood Memorial Library & Museum. The book, containing 128 pages of fascinating photos from the town's history, is available for purchase at the library's museum store here.

The Wapping Creamery Co. was founded around 1883, and operated at 74 Felt Road until 1929. Workers collected milk from local dairy farms and churned it into butter, which was then sold to area stores. The 1,656-square-foot building also was used to manufacture illegal booze during the Prohibition era; a 1,500-gallon still was found inside the structure in 1930.

The site is now a private residence. Here is a look at recent photos of both sides of the house, the first from Google Maps and the second taken by yours truly.
