A Revue of Drinking Songs Oct. 10

A combination concert, sing-a-long, and lecture on the songs, the history of beer, wine, cider, the Temperance Movement

“The Grain, the Grape and the Hop: Drinking Songs Old and Recent” is the Oct. 10 program of the South Windsor Historical Society and Wood Memorial Library and Museum. The combination concert, sing-a-long, and lecture on the songs, the history of beer, wine, cider, the Temperance Movement and Prohibition will be covered at Wood Library, 783 Main St., at 7 p.m.


Drinking songs from Ireland, England ,Wales, Canada and the USA will be performed and discussed by Rick Spencer and Dawn Indermuehle. Spencer is recognized internationally for his work as a developer and presenter of theme-based historic music programs in the American folk tradition. Indermuehle, researches and develops program material and creates period-appropriate vocal accompaniment. They describe their program as “A few jiggers of interesting historical information.” Singing along is always encouraged.
