From the town:
Curbside vacuum leaf collection will begin in South Windsor on Monday, November 4th, 2013. Â
Crews will start in the Debbie Drive area, Fairview Drive/Norton Lane area, Main Street, the Lake Street/Berle Road and Farnham Road area. Crews will be out on October 31st and November 1st, in high density areas, to exercise collection equipment to evaluate performance before the start of the program but will return to all leaf districts on the 4th as scheduled.
Program information and detailed list of streets in the order of collection and collection map will be available on the Internet South Windsor web page at www.southwindsor.org and the 24 hour Public Works Hotline, 860-648-6371, which will be updated daily once the program commences. Â
There will be vacuum crews in each of the four districts throughout the collection program. Two passes will be made on each street in each district for the season. The second vacuum pickup, depending on weather delays or equipment break downs, is scheduled to start on or about November 14th.
Residents are urged to rake leaves out to curbside as soon as possible before each scheduled collection pass. Residents are reminded to rake leaves, only, to the curb and not into the street for collection. Leaf piles should be free of sticks, branches and other foreign material to prevent damage or break downs to leaf collection vacuum equipment.
The leaf compost site on Burgess Road will open on October 14th to residents and will remain open to residents for the disposal of leaves until December 27, 2013 when the site closes for the season. The drop off site will be open 7 days a week from 7am to 5pm. Residents are asked to remove all containers including plastic bags so the leaves can be composted without the need for hand labor to remove non-compostable material.
Leaf Bag collection will only take place in the private areas such as Lakewood, Victorian Woods and the private roads off of Austin Circle on Tuesday, November 12th and Monday November 25th. Only paper bags will be collected.  All other public streets will only receive curbside vacuum collection. Please have the bags out at the curb, in the above mentioned locations, Sunday evening.Â
