Scenic Walking Paths of South Windsor

There are several great walking trails along scenic roadways and through nature preserves. Where is your favorite place to take a walk in town?

With the warmer temperatures and sunshiny days, it is hard to not want to get outside, even if it's in the middle of the workday.

Aside from the physical health benefits, taking an opportunity to stretch your legs on your lunch break even for a mere 10 minutes will do great things for your mind and ability to focus on the tasks at hand.

On a recent trip through town, I had 45 minutes to kill before attending a meeting at Town Hall. I had been either sitting in my car or at a library table for the better part of the day, and I could feel the need to get outside.

A quick Google search brought me to this fantastic recreation page on the South Windsor municipal website.

Based on the maps available, I was able to determine which route best fit my current schedule, and which ones i would put on my list of to-dos for later. I settled on the Major Michael Donnelly Land Preserve.

I wasn't disappointed.

The easy walk along dirt paths or raised plank bridges was relaxing and refreshing. I walked through marshland, grassland and hardwood. I met several people with cameras hoping to capture a great shot of whatever elusive bird they were searching for and watched a father and son fishing at the front pond.

One of the pleasant things about the trail was that it afforded me the opportunity to lace up my sneakers, walk off some of the day's stress and still be able to make it to back for my meeting on time.
