South Windsor Announces Christmas Tree Collection Schedule

Don't panic if you haven't gotten your tree yet, this is just for planning purposes…

After rushing around to pick out your Christmas tree and scrambling to get it decorated, you might not want to think about taking it down and out to the curb… but, for planning purposes, here’s an announcement from the town regarding the collection schedule (but make sure to relax and enjoy the season while it lasts!):

Special collections for the purpose of recycling whole Christmas trees have been scheduled. The first Christmas trees collection will begin the week of Monday, January 4, 2016. The last Christmas trees collection will begin the week of Monday, January 22, 2016. The collection will be on your refuse collection day of this week. Trees must be placed at the curb for collection by 7:00 a.m. There will be one pass per street.

The collection at the Condominiums, including Plum Ridge Condominiums, will be only on Friday, January 8, 2016 and Friday, January 22, 2016.

Trees placed in plastic bags will not be picked up.

For those who cannot wait until January 4, 2016 or miss the special pickups, Christmas trees can be collected with refuse if branches are trimmed back 8 inches from the stem, and tree lengths do not exceed 4 feet. Please place branches inside plastic bags, and place bags and stem in the refuse container.

Questions may be directed to the Public Works Department, (860) 644-2511, ext. 343 – Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
