SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — The coronavirus vaccination pace has slowed in Connecticut, but the state’s infection rate has dropped dramatically in recent weeks.

Around 47 percent of Connecticut’s total population is fully vaccinated; 58 percent have received at least one dose, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than seven out of every 10 adults has received at least one dose.

In South Windsor 13,917 residents have been fully vaccinated as of May 12, which is about 53 percent of the total population — in total 64 percent of the town population has received at least one dose, according to the state Department of Public Health.

Cases

Connecticut’s infection rate continues to plummet, and only 26 municipalities are in the red zone warning level for coronavirus infections. There were 12.2 average daily cases per 100,000 residents between April 25 and May 8; that is a drop from 17.2 in the previous two-week period.

South Windsor recorded 11 new coronavirus cases between May 5 and 13, according to DPH’s preliminary data.

South Windsor had 11.2 average daily cases per 100,000 residents between April 25 and May 8 and a positive test rate of 2.90 percent. There were 11.2 average daily cases per 100,000 residents in the previous two-week reporting period. It’s important to note that a relatively small number of cases can have a big effect on the case rate, especially in smaller towns.
