South Windsor Police Peform Tobacco Compliance Checks

Three clerks at local establishments sold tobacco products to the underage youth and were issued infractions and fines.

On July 27, South Windsor Police assisted members of the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program conduct unannounced compliance inspections.

An underage youth employed by TPEP and monitored by investigators was instructed to attempt to purchase tobacco products at local stores.

The inspections were performed in an effort to determine compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition of sale of tobacco products to youths under the age of 18.

Three clerks at local establishments sold tobacco products to the underage youth and were issued infractions with fines of $200 for the sale of tobacco to minors.

The cigarette dealer license holder from the businesses found in violation will also be referred to the Department of Revenue Services for possible sanctions.

The offending employees worked at the Irving Gas Station (84 John Fitch Blvd.), Kenco Spirits (15 Main St.), and Oakland Road Express (249 Oakland Rd.).
