South Windsor Welcomes Two New School Administrators
A new Math Curriculum Specialist and Associate Principal, Timothy Edwards Middle School will join the district on July 1.
When school starts next fall, two new and fresh faces will mix into the crowd of bright-eyed students and staff.
On April 23, the school board welcomed two new administers to the South Windsor educational team, saying that they are excited for their tenure in the school district to begin.
Sharon Keegan will join the district on July 1as a math curriculum specialist, along with Elise Butson as an associate principal at the Timothy Edwards Middle School.
Last week, Butson said that when she was looking for a leadership position outside of her current school system, South Windsor stood out as a “top notch district” that puts a great emphasis on empowering teachers and creating a strong and supportive administrative team.
“I’m really excited to join a team that I think is true collaboration of teachers and administrators,” Butson said.
One of the things that attracted Butson to South Windsor is the feeling that she gets from the community that members understand and support the concept of educating the whole child, from classroom curriculum to extra curricular activities.
An educator for more than 15 years in the Hartford Public School District, Butson said she her role in South Windsor will be to support the teaching staff. In Hartford, Butson began as a middle school teacher at one of the city’s neighborhood schools before serving as an educational technology coach at one of the city’s reformed magnet schools and at the central office focusing on professional learning.
At first glimpse, Butson said she will be working with the South Windsor central office to implement the new state teacher evaluation program. During her tenure in Hartford, Butson worked to revamp the evaluation process, with her focus on individualized professional development.
Before jumping in and making changes, however, Butson said that she will get to know the families, teachers and students to find out “what’s really working.” After this exercise, if there are areas that should be tweaked, she will work with the invested parties to make necessary changes.
