HARTFORD/TOLLAND COUNTIES, CT — After more than six months on the sidelines due to the coronavirus pandemic, high school athletes in Connecticut finally got to grace the playing fields and courts again Thursday, on the first day of game competition of the fall season.

Scenarios played out slightly differently at various venues, with each school district enforcing its own policies concerning spectator attendance. Some schools are permitting spectators with limits and restrictions, while others are not allowing fans at all.

Girls volleyball teams took to the courts with each player, coach and even officials wearing masks throughout the course of play. Officials utilized electronic buzzers simulating whistle sounds in lieu of actual whistles.
