SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — The delivery process recently began for the 3,000 tons of salt ordered for the upcoming snow season, town officials said.

This year the salt is from Egypt and has been treated with a corn-based magnesium chloride, which increases the effectiveness of soaking up moisture on the roads, town officials said.

Purchasing salt during the summer "saves the town money and is part of our proactive approach to gear up for snow removal season," according to town officials.
