Update 2 p.m.:Â At Timothy Edwards Middle School, turnout had also been strong, with more than 700 votes around 1 p.m. - that's just around 20 percent with seven hours to go.
But the turnout was disproportionate, according to assistant moderator Joan Murphy.
"There have been a lot of older people coming in. I haven't seen the young people," she said. "But turnout has been good. It's more crowded than I thought."
But what that means is hard to predict. One voter asked her to point out which were the incumbent candidates so that she could vote against them, Murphy said.
Original story:Â Voting has been steady in today's election, according to moderator Tony Mercadante at South Windsor High School.
There 539 votes had been cast just before noon, with residents coming in waves to cast their votes.
"It was cold this morning and I think people were reluctant to come out but it's warmed up and we're seeing a steady turnout," Mercadante said.
Outside candidates and supporters held signs and thanked voters for coming out.
