Winter Sports Schedule Posted For South Windsor High School Teams

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — After being shut down in early March due to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, and after the opening of practice was delayed until Jan. 19, six varsity teams at South Windsor High School are ready for the long-awaited opening contests of the 2021 winter schedule.

Due to being deemed a "high-risk" sport, wrestling will not be competing this season, but other Bobcat squads are eager to hit the ice, court, gym and pool. Due to a ruling by the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC), games may not start prior to Feb. 8, teams will be limited to a maximum of 12 games, teams may not schedule more than two games per week and there will be no state tournament competition.

Girls ice hockey, which is not sanctioned by the CIAC, will get a jump on the other teams, with its first contest slated for Friday, Feb. 5. Girls and boys basketball and boys ice hockey all start Feb. 8, gymnastics opens Feb. 9 and boys swimming begins Feb. 10.

Athletic director David Sytulek said no home or visiting fans will be allowed for any winter sports. Boys and girls varsity home basketball games will be livestreamed; links are on the South Windsor High School Athletic website. Boys hockey home games will be available via livestream through Live Barn from the South Windsor Arena.
