A crash closed a section of Route 30 in Stafford.
STAFFORD, CT — A crash closed a section of Route 30 Wednesday morning.
The crash was reported shortly after 8 a.m. It took place on Route 30, just south of the interchange with Handel Road just north of Clearwater Drive and Crystal Lake.
Fire officials said one person was transported to Hartford Hospital with "severe" injuries after being cut out of the vehicle. It appeared a silver sport utility vehicle had skidded into a tree. There was a distinct odor of fuel at the scene.

Route 30 was closed in both directions. At the south end, traffic was being re-routed down Conklin and Boyer roads, while at the north end, cars were being sent to Pine and Handel roads.
Police and fire crews made quick work of the scene. The road was re-opened at 9:42 a.m.
